Rants and Randoms


Summer holidays are approaching and the kids are excited! But what does this mean for you? How are WE going to keep the children entertained and enjoy real life without breaking the bank? Would you like to keep your sanity during the long holidays? If so then this is your BS free guide to get more out of the holidays. I have done some research on Pinterest, YouTube and read books to put together a collection of ideas to spark your imaginations without spending a fortune.


Indoor Fun

  1. Create a time capsule

Time capsules are a cool idea. You can put a list of  your child’s dreams or goals or write down some fun family memories using plastic bottles or an old jar.

  1. Film a music video

Isaiah loves dancing so I know he will definitely love it!

  1. Find Pen pal

They may not see their school friends as much over the summer, this is a fantastic way to keep in touch!

  1. Board games night

Have some snacks, and switch off gadgets and spend some quality time together as a family

  1. Set up a book club

School’s out but learning shouldn’t stop. Make it fun with friends and snacks

Outdoor fun

  1. Beach

Bit of an obvious one but why not get some shells and stones that you can use for Arts and crafts later?

  1. Swimming

If you live in the UK, some parts of London are offering free swim sessions, otherwise is an affordable sport for the kids to keep cool.

  1. Park/Playground

Don’t limit yourself to your local park, the internet is your oyster, research and visit parks/playgrounds in other areas.

  1. Play rounders

Equipments are cheap and such a fun game to play together as a family.

  1. Fun Fairs

Very common although can be quiet costly. However, many fairs now hold deals and it is also a nice family day out.

Arts and Crafts

  1. Create a slogan t-shirt using a fabric pen
  2. Create a robot costume out of old card boxes and make a movie. This should take hours and keep your rug rats entertained for hours.
  3. Customise canvas plimsollsPrimark sells very affordable pairs
  4. Bake cookies or cupcakes and give them away as random acts of kindness.
  5. Tie-dye T-shirt

I hope these activities have given you ideas to have fun with your kids without leaving a hole in your pocket. I know this will keep me and mine occupied this summer. Enjoy!
